The Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation was established by Dr. Lorna Breen’s family following her tragic death by suicide during the harrowing early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. The foundation works to break that stigma, safeguard healthcare workers’ well-being, advance systemic policy change, and create compassionate workplace cultures. In 2021, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Thrive Global, Creative Arts Agency, and Johnson & Johnson Foundation, came together with the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation to launch a national campaign: ALL IN: WellBeing First for Healthcare, with a vision that every health worker should feel valued, protected, and empowered to seek the care they need. As the coalition lead, the Foundation brought in Chaski to create an engaging call to action document that would expand collaborative cross-sector support.

Process

In partnership with the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes Foundation, we designed the Funders Circle report to show how members can advance health worker mental health and well-being. Combining state-of-the-industry insights, data points, and interactive QR codes, we created a visually engaging booklet that highlighted funding priorities and the impact of cross-sector collaboration. Working closely with internal stakeholders, we crafted content and design that clearly demonstrated how Funders Circle investments fill critical gaps—including support for smaller and historically underserved health systems. The report, paired with a targeted cover letter, provided prospective funders with a compelling invitation to join the effort to protect and care for caregivers.

Results

  • A visually engaging report and companion cover letter that clearly communicated funding priorities, demonstrated the impact of cross-sector investment, and provided prospective members with a compelling, actionable way to support health worker mental health.

Impact

Since launching the Funders Circle campaign, the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes Foundation successfully reached critical Funders Circle targets. Today the foundation counts 32 organizations across the healthcare spectrum as coalition members in the ALL IN Wellbeing First for Healthcare program.
